I’ve asked your classmate, John Iwaniec, to come over and open your class present.

不。  What I’ve given you, Class of 2017, is something different, something contained in the words John read from the outside of this envelope. That’s what I’m going to talk about in my 学士学位 sermon when I walk back up on stage. While I’m headed back to the stage and John is headed back to his seat, let’s give John a big round of applause for being a good sport and helping me start this sermon.

We are all on a search for happiness, aren’t we?

My friends in the Class of 2017, what I’m giving you for graduation is the story of Madeleine. It’s a story about the secret of happiness, about how happiness finds you when you have the eyes, the heart, the soul to embrace happiness, to wrap your arms around happiness, to claim the gift of happiness when happiness is looking for you. 幸福来自于让自己被利用——从最好的意义上说——与那些需要你帮助的人建立关系，与那些没有你就无法坚强的人分享你的力量。 说到底，幸福是一种信念——在似乎什么都没有的时候，却能看到那里有什么。 和成就、成就、达成目标、打勾一样重要的是——所有这些都很重要——所有这些本身并不等于幸福。 《比佛利山庄的真正主妇》没有搞清楚什么是幸福。 女管家玛德琳确实懂得幸福。
